Small Mercy for Android and Wear OS — v1.1.7

Dr Tyson K··10 min read

This update brings clearer privacy checks, more useful appointments and letter review on Android, and steadier letter dictation from the watch while Small Mercy is open on the nearby phone.

Android

  • The recording timer stays frozen while paused. Interrupted-recording recovery and paired-device handoffs are steadier.
  • The Verify privacy drawer says when each promise is checked. Before recording, “Never used to train AI” reads “Checked as soon as transcription begins”, and the encryption line keeps “Checked once recording starts”; the shared note under them is gone. While recording, until transcription has begun, the training line reads “We’ll confirm this as soon as transcription begins” instead of “We haven’t confirmed yet that this consult was kept out of AI training”.
  • The processing chip is shorter and plainer, for example “Stays in Australia” or “Private · stays in Australia”. The privacy drawer says “a trusted service” only for a service in Australia; a service outside it is “a managed service”.
  • The Verify privacy drawer’s other lines now come from your Small Mercy server in the same friendly voice, for example “Transcribed by a trusted service in Australia” and “Stored in Australia · encrypted · every access logged”. A check that has not been confirmed yet now says so, separately from one that could not be confirmed.
  • The Verify privacy drawer is friendlier. It is grouped by moment: before you start, while recording, and afterwards. The status tags beside each line are gone, and every line wraps, so the drawer only scrolls up and down. Before recording, it says what happens to the audio under your organisation’s retention setting, for example “The audio is deleted once you confirm the note”. A check that could not be confirmed says so in words.
  • The pre-recording privacy drawer says “No stored voiceprint is loaded or sent” only to organisations using Global processing, as on iOS.
  • Privacy labels no longer say “organisation consent” where your organisation has already consented. They still say when a consult needs its own consent, or when the consent basis is not yet known.
  • The privacy bar under the consult screens is shorter. Before recording it says, in your server’s words, where the consult goes, for example “Your consult stays in Australia”. While recording it shows only its title and Verify. Open Verify for the full detail, including how long audio is kept.
  • On the Australian service the welcome footer reads “Made in Australia 🦘. Processing in Australia.” on one line. The server sends this wording, so builds that already show the server’s footer change without an update.
  • A practice with no Cliniko or Nookal connection no longer sees appointment boxes, practice-system cards or attach controls. A consult that already has a practice appointment still shows it.
  • The welcome and sign-up screens say where this server keeps your data, in the server’s own words. Setup names your profession’s regulator, and privacy labels use your organisation’s wording.
  • Practice-system filing says more when it cannot go ahead:
    • a problem only Small Mercy support can fix is shown once, with no retry button;
    • a check that could not be answered offers Try again;
    • a consult attached to both Cliniko and Nookal says so once;
    • when a filing’s outcome cannot be checked, the card says why and that Small Mercy support closes it.
  • Patient-link search asks you to keep typing, and says how many letters or numbers it needs, rather than reporting no match for a search too short to run.
  • After a start check fails, a consent offer you already accepted is not shown to confirm again.
  • While a change to a note is blocked, its Discard button is disabled instead of doing nothing.
  • Speaker colours match the web and iPhone apps, and markers placed near the end of a recording land at the right time.
  • Connected Cliniko and Nookal practices see the day’s appointments on Home, Patients and a patient’s detail, can move between days, and can start a consult from a booking or from Choose appointment when starting. A day you have already loaded is kept while you move between screens, and says it was not re-read.
  • Linking a booking to a Small Mercy patient happens in a review sheet. It searches your patients, can show all the matches the search returned, asks you to narrow a search that found too many, re-reads the booking to say whether it is ready to start, and offers a new chart only after the search has checked for an existing one.
  • After confirming the note and its destination, you can send a draft copy to Cliniko or file it in Nookal from the review screen, and check the outcome without sending twice. If filing is switched off for your practice, the card says so and you transfer the note yourself.
  • You can attach a practice appointment to a consult from the review screen after recording. The attached appointment names the consult’s patient, and consult rows show which practice system a consult is attached to.
  • Reviewing a Cliniko booking’s patient link checks that the booking is still on the day you chose it from.
  • A letter can no longer be confirmed from an out-of-date copy. If it changed, was moved to Trash or was archived elsewhere, Small Mercy shows the latest version and says why. If a section edit is refused because the letter changed elsewhere, your text stays on screen for you to reapply or discard.
  • A newly confirmed letter keeps showing the patient and recipient it was confirmed for, even if they change later. Letters confirmed before this update still show the current records.
  • Letter sections use the heading Small Mercy’s server names, including “(as documented)” on sections drawn from source records, and letters built from the newer document templates show their own section names.
  • The review queue can flag a medication change that was mentioned but not clearly stated.
  • If speaker names cannot be read, the transcript still shows, and renaming, merging and role changes pause until the names can be read.
  • If Small Mercy cannot read its saved record of an earlier transcript change, it pauses changes to that consultation or meeting and asks you to contact support, rather than offering a reload that cannot help.
  • The phone app now looks and behaves like the iPhone app across the screens compared side by side:
    • If you can’t use your practice system, Home shows one short line naming the reason, with the full explanation behind Details. You can dismiss it; it returns if the reason changes. The repeated “Only an organisation admin can change this.” line is gone.
    • When starting a consult, “Choose an appointment” sits beside Scan and No patient. It is dimmed, with its reason, when the practice system can’t be read, and is absent if you dismissed that notice. The patient picker no longer draws under the status bar.
    • Tasks are two-row cards that open their details from anywhere on the card. The Tasks title shows how many are open, and the tab no longer pops in.
    • Nothing on a tab, or on a screen opened from one, ends hidden under the tab bar.
    • The app icon picker uses iPhone’s icons, names and shorter tiles; Sage is captioned “Calm”.
    • The letter composer puts Discard on the left and Save on the right. Discard still asks first.
    • The review is titled with the patient’s name, centred, and the draft shows the designed “Structuring the note…” card. A draft action item reads “Follow-up” and “28 Aug 2026”.
    • Setup’s privacy step shows your organisation’s own privacy box, not a list of every mode. The microphone step no longer describes how audio is processed. Titles match iPhone’s size.
    • The app mark has iPhone’s proportions everywhere. Your profile monogram uses your initials, on the clinician colour.
    • Consent sheets say “One-time consent”, offer a retry for processing, and show Decline in the calm colour. Voice enrolment in Settings reads and records as on iPhone.
    • The selected tab sits on a soft green pill, the tabs use iPhone’s outline icons, and Tasks shows your open-task count on the tab. Tasks section headers, the meta line and the “+” match iPhone.
    • A new “Eucalypt” app icon, captioned “Classic”, is iPhone’s dark green icon. Normal keeps the cream icon.
    • The review has iPhone’s template chip, listen and patient chips, and its “Needs your eye” card.
    • Writing a letter is iPhone’s four steps: the kind of letter, the patient, the recipient, then what it should say, typed or dictated.
    • Sign-up’s last step is iPhone’s “Set how you’ll sign in”.
    • Your profile has iPhone’s layout: “Add a passkey” is its own row, passkeys have a remove icon, and Sign out is a card button.
    • Practice-system filing shows the outcome on a coloured pill and each step on its own bordered row. Once a draft is filed, its destination reads “Filed to”. A filed draft that no longer matches the note, or whose outcome is unproven, is marked for a check.
    • Archived patients (with “Show archived” on) appear dimmed with an ARCHIVED tag. Patient search shows a search icon and a clear button.
    • You can change a draft action item’s wording and due date before you confirm it, or remove its date.
    • If the app closed mid-consult and the server still holds the recording, opening the banner continues it on this phone. The gap is marked on the recording. Otherwise it opens for review, as before.
    • Dictating a letter or recording a meeting opens as a full page, with Cancel at the top and Start recording at the bottom.
    • A review check whose main button already plays the moment (“Listen in the transcript”) no longer shows a second “Listen to this moment” button.
  • The consent summary shows “Private” only when the consult’s audio and transcript both stay in the cell.
  • A review check for a missing section now reads “Write this section”.
  • The letter sign-off and two-factor confirm spinners are round.
  • Appointments: the button that jumps back to today only appears once you have moved to a different day, and sits beside Refresh (now an icon) instead of under the date. The practice-system read status moved to the bottom of the card, in smaller text.
  • Appointments: the day arrows work before anything is loaded. The card shows the practice’s today between ‹ and ›, and tapping an arrow moves to that day and loads it. Load appointments loads the day shown.
  • Listen-back no longer draws the scrubber at the end of the track after the app returns from the background — it shows the real paused position, as playback already did.
  • Dictating a letter closes the keyboard, and drafting shows one loading mark instead of two.

Wear OS

  • Start consultations, meetings and letter dictation from the watch while Small Mercy is open on the nearby phone. Pause and reconnection are clearer.
  • The watch uses a black background, with readable text and scrollable controls on round screens.
  • Watch-microphone letter dictation stops promptly when the nearby phone or its visible capture authority is lost. Returning the phone enables Resume; reconnecting alone cannot restart the mic.
  • The recording indicator lets you return from the watch face or recent apps. It appears as soon as a phone recording started from the watch is being prepared.
  • With watch notifications turned off, a consultation or meeting started from the watch on the phone microphone now starts, and the watch’s consent screen shows “Watch alerts are off: the watch face won’t show recording.” Dictating a letter on the watch microphone still needs notifications.

Consultations and meetings use the phone microphone. Dictated letters can use the watch microphone and send audio directly to Small Mercy; the phone remains in charge of consent and the resulting draft.

Every generated note, letter, meeting minute or task remains a draft until you review and explicitly confirm it. Small Mercy is a documentation aid, not a diagnostic device.
